第七印。
第6章描述了七印中的头六印的揭开。第7章是一个插叙,中断了揭印的过程,说明上帝有一班真子民将在上述的恐怖中站立得住(见@启6:17@注释)。现在异象又回到了揭印上。
天上寂静。
与其他六印揭开时的惊人场面不同,第七印揭开后是一阵可怕的寂静。这种寂静至少有两种解释。有人认为天上的这次寂静是紧接在基督复临前的那些可怕事件的(启6:14-16)。因为天军都离开了天庭,陪同基督一起到地上来了(见太25:31)。 另一种观点是,天上的这次寂静代表严肃的期盼(参怀爱伦的相关论述:《早期著作》15,16页;《历代愿望》693页)。迄今为止,圣经都把天庭描写成一个充满了赞美和诗歌的地方,现在却鸦雀无声,严肃地期待即将发生的大事。按这样的理解,第七印的寂静就成了揭印和吹号之间的桥梁,表明七印的启示还不完全。上帝同邪恶作战的进程还需进一步解释(见第5节注释)。
二刻。
即“半个小时。”有些解经家按一日顶一年的预言计时法来理解这段时间(见@但7:25@注释)。这样,“二刻”就相当于一周时间(参《早期著作》第16页)。也有人认为,圣经中没有任何事例可以证明少于一天的时间可以按预言的计时法来来换算,因此“二刻”只是代表一段不长的时间。安息日复临信徒一般认同第一种看法。

雹子与火。
这里的画面是大冰雹加上闪电,与降在埃及的第七灾相似(出9:22-25)。
地上。
这场灾难所打击的主要目标是大地和上面的植物(见启16:2),其特征与阿拉里克所率西哥特人对罗马的入侵十分吻合。这是日耳曼人第一次入侵罗马帝国,对罗马帝国的最后覆灭产生了重要的影响。大约从公元396年开始,东哥特人相继蹂躏了色雷斯,马其,及希腊等帝国东部地区。后来他们又越过阿尔卑斯山,于公元410年洗劫了罗马。他们还掠夺了今天法国的大部分地区,最后在西班牙定居下来。

约翰显然觉得用燃烧的大山最适合描述他眼前的情景。“烧着的大山”这个说法还出现在犹太的启示文学中(见《以诺书》18:13;R. H. 查尔斯《旧约次经和伪经》卷二,200页)。但没有证据表明约翰对眼前景象的描写源于这部作品。参耶51:25,先知称巴比伦为“行毁灭的山”,将要成为“烧毁的山。”
海。
