犹大王约沙法
。第十九章的资料在《列王记》里是没有的。其中包括约沙法从基列的拉末回来以后,受到先知的责备(第1-3节);国王进行宗教改革的个人努力(第4节)和司法制度的改革(第5-11节)。

。亚哈和约沙法未能攻下基列的拉末。部队回家了。这项计划看来也放弃了(见王上22:36)。文中暗示亚兰人击退了进攻,但并不想扩大他们的战果。约沙法倒是平平安安地回到了耶路撒冷。他有些悲伤,但变聪明了一些。

哈拿尼的儿子耶户
。哈拿尼是指责亚撒依靠亚兰王而不依靠耶和华,因此被关进监狱的先知(代下16:6-10)。耶户则是大胆谴责以色列王巴沙罪孽的先知(王上16:1-7)。耶户也是约沙法王朝的史官(代下20:34)。
出来迎接
。约沙法在最倒霉的时候受到了责备。他心灰气馁地回到首都。这时先知的信息能在他的心中起到非常有效的作用。
帮助恶人
。在人看来,约沙法和亚哈联合进攻亚兰是聪明之举。亚兰正日益强盛,对犹大和以色列都构成威胁。希伯来人有权收回约旦河对岸被亚兰人所夺走的城市。约沙法可能仔细估计了形势,认为进攻亚兰是有把握的。但是这次出征没有得到上帝的批准,并且与上帝所不能赐福的人合作。亚哈是拜偶像的人。约沙法则一直在努力清除偶像崇拜。二者之间毫无共同之处。约沙法无权与如此卑劣的人联合。如果他单独进攻亚兰,可能会更加有利,更有胜利的把握。在上帝的帮助和祝福下,他可能会取得成功,即使没有亚哈军队的援助。人的帮助如果没有属天的祝福,那就会是诅咒而不是福气。
忿怒临到你
。上帝不喜悦约沙法的行径,通过公开的责备表明祂的不悦。下一章记录摩押人,亚扪人和西珥山人攻击犹大,以及约沙法船队的毁灭。

应当敬畏耶和华
。执法人员经常面临作出决定的任务。他在工作时要意识到上帝的圣目在观望着他。他必须不断解决争端。在解决的时候必须记住,他所做出的每一项决定都登记在天上的册子中。
没有不义
。令人安慰的是,这位世界的大法官是一位公正的法官。祂的每一项决定都是公正的(见申32:4;诗9:8;67:4;96:13;启19:11)。
不偏待人
。一个公正的法官裁决案件应当根据事实,而不是所涉及的对象。在作出裁决时,偏待人的现象实在是太普遍了。徇私情,偏袒有可能有回报的人,这样的审判既不公正,也不能带来上天的福气。天上的主宰是不偏待人的(申10:17;行10:34;罗2:11;加2:6;弗6:9;彼前1:17)。跟随祂的人也应当像祂。奉承和偏待有钱有势的人,藐视和欺骗贫穷卑微的人,是先知书后来经常斥责以色列领导人的严重罪行之一。
也不受贿赂
。天国的公正不是用来交易的,但是人间的司法往往并非如此。裁决经常受礼物的影响。送礼常常出于不正当的动机,希望得到回报。贿赂不一定都是银子金子。许多负有重任的人因接受一些表面上无碍的礼品而被拖下了水。每个人负有裁决职责的人都必须保持警惕,不要让任何形式的礼物,影响他所作的决定。

。据代上6:8-11,亚玛利雅是大卫时代的大祭司撒督以后的第五任(撒下17:15)。约沙法是大卫以后的第五位国王,所以这两处指的是同一个亚玛利雅。
凡属耶和华的事
。大祭司自然是高等法院中处理宗教案件的最高首长。
凡属王的事
。西巴第雅是高等法院中处理民事和刑事案件的首长。
